Special Interest Session IX: SGO Wellness Retreat: Reinvigorating the Joy and Compassion in Your Practice

Monday, March 30, 2015: 5:15 PM-7:15 PM
Continental Ballroom (Hilton Chicago)
Description: The past few years have revealed an increasing body of evidence confirming the shockingly high rate of mental and emotional burnout among physicians. Burnout can be associated with feelings of distraction, dissatisfaction, depersonalization, anxiety, and depression. This special mini-retreat will begin by reviewing the impact and latest research on this topic. The majority of the session will then focus on suggestions for alleviating or neutralizing these stresses. By cultivating attention and awareness, even the most difficult situations and emotions can be transformed into sources of inner peace and joy. Led by Kell Julliard, head of clinical research at Lutheran HealthCare in Brooklyn, NY, this wellness program will provide information about attention training, compassion and mindfulness practices, and give you practical ways to experience their benefits. Join your peers in a supportive and fun environment. Learn how you can begin to implement strategies immediately to avoid burnout and maximize the joy in your practice (and your life).
