Ballroom B/C (Tampa Convention Center)
Description:
The 2014 SGO Annual Meeting marks the 11th and final year for the Montz Symposium. Formerly known as the Surgical Handicraft Workshop, this session was renamed in memory of F.J. “Rick” Montz, MD, KM, through the generous financial support of corporate sponsors Ethicon,
Inc., and Oncotech, Inc., as well as Dr. James W. Orr, MD, FACOG, FACS, president of SGO from 2003 - 2004. Prior to his unexpected death at the age of 47, Dr. Montz was slated to be Dr. Orr’s program chair. Despite a promising career
that ended prematurely, Dr. Montz made a lasting impact on the subspecialty of gynecologic oncology, first at the University of California Los Angeles, and finally at Johns Hopkins University, where he founded and developed the Howard A. Kelly Gynecologic Oncology Service at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
In this lively slide and video presentation by two minimally invasive experts, laparoscopic and robotic approaches to the most common oncologic procedures including radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy, omentectomy, appendectomy, and high aortic lymphaden-ectomy to debulking of tumor, will be compared. Brisk discussion and debate by presenters interspersed with audience participation will refine the indications, advantages and disadvantages for each approach.
