Biographical Sketch: Dr. Schwartz completed a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the M.D.Anderson Cancer Center in 1975. He joined the faculty at Yale University where he rose up the academic ranks and has a chaired professorship. He established the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Yale in 1978 and received approval for a board certified gynecologic oncology training program in 1980. He has been employing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) in the treatment of women with advanced stage ovarian cancer since 1979, first in medically compromised patients and later for those with very extensive disease in the upper abdomen unlikely by CT criteria to be optimally surgically cytoreduced and for patients with Stage IV disease. He has published extensively on the role of NACT in the treatment of advanced stage ovarian cancer."
